My Review

3.5 Once a Seal Always a Seal Stars

"Im not going to be shy. I promised myself out there, on the water. What you did last night was.....miraculous! Thank you."-Maura

A SEAL Forever, the 3rd book in the West Coast Navy Seals Series, was an okay read for me. I had a few things that didn't work for me with this story, but still overall I enjoyed the book for the most part. This book is about Declan, a Navy SEAL, and his neighbor a very shy Maura. After saving Maura from almost drowning one day, they start dating. A little over a month into their relationship, Declan is shipped out on a mission and he loses one of his legs. Now it's Maura's turn to be the rock for Declan.

"You always seem to do that." "What?" he asked. "Empower me. Make me feel better about myself, like I can get through any situation no matter what it is, if I just give myself a chance to work through it."-Maura and Declan

So here is what didn't work for me in this book:

For one the blurb is annoyingly inaccurate. When a loud crash disturbs his neighbor, Maura Maxwell, she assumes the sailor next door is up to his usual bad behavior. But the man she finds covered in glass is far from the cocky ladies' man she'd grown to tolerate.WHAT? For one what the hell is the blurb talking about "The man she'd grown to tolerate"? really at that point in the book they have been dating for a few months and she was already falling in love with him. Then when she hears the crash the blurb would have you think she thought "Oh great my man whore neighbor is at it again with his new flavor" when really in the book she runs over happy going " Declan are you home?" WTH Blurb? It really annoyed me, but that didn't effect my rating. Then the first half of the book is very slow and gets a little boring. When the book should have been giving us readers details and scenes on the couple together, relationship building, falling in love, it focused a lot on his training, missions, stake outs, and her and her gym.

"I want you to....enjoy it." She smiled. He was a good guy. Down deep, she'd known that. "If you do your job right, then I will." "Oh, it's up to me... to do a good job. I see. No pressure."-Declan and Maura

"Just want you to know. I'm not the only fish out there. You can do better." He had to give her an out, as much as it hurt him. "Declan, I'm not going anywhere. You're the only one I want." She leaned down and kissed him, teasing his upper lip until he joined in. "I've put away my fishing pole."-Declan and Maura

Then I felt like there are some more important details missing from this story. I mean it never even tells you their hair color. If it's long, short, curly nothing. It only says that Maura has green eyes. No clue what color Declan's eyes are. I never got a picture of what they looked like in my head. I felt like pieces of their relationship are missing too. And that was just the most basic details that books normally give. I don't really feel like I know who the MCs are. Just the surface.

"I don't want to stop being a Seal. This is it. This is all I ever wanted for my life." "Then fight for it!" -Declan and Maura

"You're my hero ," she said. His body stiffened. "I'm no one's hero. I'm just a man who's doing the best he can, and who loves this woman." She lifted her head. "I love you, Declan."-Declan and Maura

Also the book jumps around a lot. A week here, few weeks there. One example that really bugged me was, they are getting ready to make love for the first time. He goes down on her and then he is climbing back up her to make love to her. Right when we are getting to the best part the first time he is inside her. A very important intimacy moment, a big connection. Instead the scene goes like this. "Details of him going down on her, he climbs up and .... A week later and he still can't believe how good it is with Maura." and I am like wait... What? He is climbing up to her and then we just skip ahead a week. Really? The whole book is like that. It kind of gives it a choppy unsmooth flow. Also after saving Maura, Declan kisses her, then leaves her apt goes home and has sex with other woman a few hours later, then the next day goes on a date with Maura and they starts their relationship. I know they were not together yet but is was still uncool to kiss Maura and then have sex with someone else in the span of a few hours.

"I take plenty of time to think about the issues that come my way. But my goal, or rather the desire to reach my goal, is greater than any fear I have. Only one emotion can win: desire or fear. So I chose desire."-Declan

"Whenever I'm with you, wherever we are, my Maura, I am home."-Declan

Now on to the things I liked about this book. Maura and Declan have a pretty low drama relationship. They get along well, are respectful and sweet to each other, and they are very supportive of each other. I thought the friendship/brotherhood the team had was adorable, and at times funny. I like the fact that this book gives a really touching look at the struggles and sacrifices our Military men face. The pain and vulnerability that Declan and others go through facing their disabling injuries, loss of limbs or life. The fear and anger of losing a part of yourself that defines you so much that you don't know who you are anymore and learning to be a new you. Declan's pain and struggle felt real and they broke my heart. I love that Declan doesn't let the loss of his leg defeat him. This story has a nice upbeat message of hope, endurance, and a honorable character overcoming. So while it wasn't a major hit for me, it was an enjoyable read and I will definitely give this author another try.

My Review

  5 Introducing The Møriør Stars

                                      *Some Spoilers Below*

"Because I pay them well in their favorite currency: stiff fuckings with a stout cock. It just so happens I'm rich beyond measure."-Rune

"I like a guy with passion. When you finished back there, I couldn't tell if you'd gotten your nut or muffled a sneeze." -Jo

Let me start by saying that I didn't read the blurb for this book when I requested it from Netgalley, it was Kresley Cole's Immortals After Dark series enough said. But when I got ready to read it and seen that the MC of this book are two new characters, I was a little disappointed that it wasn't Munro's book, and kinda worried. But I loved this book and I think it tied in well to the series. That being said Lawd have mercy this was a angsty read!

"Possessive? As if I'd want you for my own." I'd kind of wanted you for my own. I want someone for my own! "You're just a blood bag in a big-dicked package. Who didn't last long enough to get me off."-Jo

"Trust me, dove. It's not going anywhere. Rune the Insatiable does not do monogamy."-Rune

Jo has no memory of her life before the age of 8, when she was found wondering the streets with her baby brother Thad(remember the teenage boy that was locked up with Regin the Radiant in the Immortal prison by Declan Chase in Dreams of a Dark Warrior, that was Thad) and put in foster system. Jo took Thad and ran away, and as a little child she raised Thad the best she could on the streets. A few years later ( I don't wanna give to much away) Jo and Thad get separated. Thad gets adopted and Jo is all alone not knowing what she is and trying to figure out her powers. Years later she runs into another immortal, who is screwing some chick out in the open with three others on the ground looking like he already had them. She has so many questions for this guy about who she is and her powers, but first she's gotta wait for him to finish.

"Is this your idea of asking for a relationship? Is that why you were faithful?" "Faithful?" He looked aghast. "Slow down, vampire. I don't want to give you the impression I would be monogamous, because it will never happen. If we spent time together, we'd have to work on your jealousy."-Jo and Rune

"You're bringing up sex again? I'm not looking for a meaningless hookup. Be warned: I'm going all-in with the next guy I sleep with. Relationship, trust, commitment, love. The works."-Jo

Jo was an awesome heroine. She had a rough and lonely life. No one to depend on but herself. She was strong, brave and had a great since of self, even though she didn't know who or what she was. Jo was brash, outspoken, sometimes a little naive due to raising herself, but she was a good person who tried to protect those who couldn't protect themselves. With her snarky comments, and her sassy "hulk smash" attitude I found Jo engaging and endearing.

"One day you'll find a nice female who'll put up with your job' . Listen to my words, Rune: I am not that woman. If you stepped out on me, I'd kick your ass to the curb."-Jo

"Then explain how you can be so sure." "The first time blood touched my tongue, I knew I was a blood-drinker forever. I didn't need to date Blood for a few months and then move in with Blood and meet Blood's family to be sure." "Yes, but that's instinct." "Exactly. Don't you trust yours?"-Rune and Jo

"Changed your mind?" She nodded with understanding. "Problems with little Rune, old man? Do you know the Viagra symbol?"-Jo

"But the past can never be undone, and mine is sordid. I'm tainted in more ways than one." he drank deeply. "I bet you've never been with a whore before."-Rune

Kresley Cole has a talent for writing rough, dark, and damaged heroes. Ones I think I will hate, but end up loving. And Rune was no exception. Rune made me love him, ache for all the things he suffered, and want to choke the shit outta him in equal measure! Rune was strong, and loyal. A 7000 year old man-whore, he has a big heart under everything, feels deeply, but he thinks he is damaged, dirty and unfeeling. Rune is a half dark fae, half demon so his blood, and bodily fluid is poison. A slave since he was a child, at 15 his queen turned him into a sexual assassin, having him sleep and kiss her enemies(his kiss kills)then she turned around and sold him to a whorehouse. Sold into sexual slavery, using sex to get what he wants is all he knows. A master of pleasure, he is known as Rune the Insatiable. He wants more, but doesn't think it's in the cards for him. Rune has sweet moments, where I could see how Jo would fall for him then he had stupid moments where I wanted to bitch slap him.

"I never allowed myself to imagine...." His face fell. "My offspring would be poisonous." "Maybe, maybe not. Worst case scenario for our offspring: having to score a wicked awesome mate like you did." "You would want" -he cleared his throat to gruffly ask-"you'd have young with me?"-Rune and Jo

"You're never going to be alone again, because I will never let you go. Understand me, Josie-this is forever."-Rune

"It was going to happen eventually, Josephine. I told you I broker in information, and I use sex to get it. This is part of my job. I can't retire from it right at the Accession." He curled his finger under her chin. "Better to get this out of the way, so you know what to expect." So you don't get your hopes up. "You would choose your job over your mate?" He dropped his hand. "I am choosing to remain myself. My mate should try to understand why that matters to me!"-Rune and Jo

"Tell me what you are." His demon intensity made her crazed. She dug her claws into his shoulders. "Yours." She wanted to bite him. He thrust upward, growling, "You're going to bear my young." "Yes." "Your blood's black. It's like mine. I'll always be inside you."-Rune and Jo

Jo and Rune had massive sexual tension, and tons of chemistry. Most of the book really builds up their relationship, and boy is their relationship a roller coaster ride of emotions and so full of drama. Rune doesn't think he can do monogamy, and he doesn't believe he has a mate. Jo wants love, commitment, and faithfulness, and she will have nothing less. So starts the battle of wills. Rune trying to seduce Jo into seeing things his way, and Jo refusing to sleep with him until he can promise monogamy. I loved that Jo stood up to Rune, she knew what she wanted in their relationship and she respected herself enough not to settle for less.

"You should've been. I was an ass. I'd continued to view myself as I'd been in the past. It didn't matter how much I'd accomplished or how far I'd climbed, I couldn't see my own worth."-Rune

"Can you forgive me? My actions were idiotic, my words to you hateful. I flinch to recall them. But I will atone if you give me the chance."-Rune

I really enjoyed this book from beginning to end. I feel this book opened up the plot of the series so that Nix could get her HEA and built up the upcoming Accession. I am pretty sure I know who Nix's mate is, but I don't wanna give too much away. I also think it set up a story line for Thad to get his own book. We also get to meet Darach the first Lyka. I hope that Darach and Desh(Charming pirate demon that we see in this book and few others) get their own books. Sweet Ruin was a great addition to the IAD series I can't wait to see what's next!

"Then I vow to you I'll never be with another. I love you, Josie." She sucked in a breath. "I love you too. Even when you're a dickwad."-Rune and Jo

4 The big bad wolf Stars

“Don’t get between me and my sugar, TJ It won’t end well for you.”

Instant Temptation is the last book in the Wilder series and I am sad to see it go. I would have loved to have a book or two more. I know there is no more Wilder brothers but I wouldn't mind having a follow up novella or something. This book is about the oldest Wilder brother TJ finding love. I really enjoyed TJ and Harley's story.

What this book is about

TJ Wilder doesn't know what he did all those years ago that made Harley hate him. When they were in school they use to be friends, but not anymore. When they are not avoiding each other they are fighting with each other. But no matter how much they fight with each other there is this underline explosive sexual tension between them too. When TJ goes with Harley as a professional guide to help her with some Biology work she has to do in the woods will they finally talk things out and see what is between them or will they end up killing each other?

“I heard you go running like a bat out of hell. What’s the matter, Harley, see something that bothered you?” Yes. Yes, she was bothered. Hot and bothered. “The big bad wolf.” He laughed again. “Should have stayed and let me show you what big teeth I have.”

TJ:

TJ is your typical Wilder brother. Sexy man's man with a yummy rock hard body. He loves the ladies but is a commitment phobe. TJ is very restless and goes on long trips for months at a time. His girlfriend Sam who was into outdoor adventures too, died on a river guide trip by being careless, so not only does he have walls around his heart, but it has made him cautious. Now he tries to be prepared for anything outdoors.

"But you also make me laugh. You make me feel good. And sometimes, Harley, when you think I’m not paying attention, you look at me like…” “Like what?” she whispered. “Like I’m worth something to you.”

Harley:

Harley is a child of two hippies that bounced from job to job while she was growing up and she never felt stable and that is what she wants most in life. She takes care of her family helping them pay their bills, and giving them money when she can. She is very hard working and tries hard not to need anyone. I love that in this book you get to see Harley's vulnerable side.

“Give me a break. This whole thing is frustrating. I don’t need people. People need me. But you, TJ” she pressed a hand to her aching heart “I need. And I really hope you got it that time because it doesn’t seem to be getting any easier to say.”

“You look like you’re torn between kissing me again and spanking me.” He dropped his hand and stared at her. “Good idea. How about both?”

TJ and Harley as a couple are very sweet. They had a very cute playfulness to their relationship once they stopped fighting and some major Heat. I loved seeing all the couples again. I was so glad that Katie and Cam are in this book. I think this book wrapped up the series nicely and was a great easy going read. I will be reading more of Jill Shalvis in the future!!

The Blurb:
The Doctor Is In Deep
Wishful, California, is 3000 miles from Dr. Emma Sinclair's last job in a New York City ER. It may as well be another galaxy. Here, running her father's clinic for a summer, Emma treats bee stings, stomach flu, and the occasional pet cat. Plus, she has to contend with patients like Stone Wilder: gorgeous, laid-back, and irritating beyond belief. The man laughs at her. A lot. And Emma loathes him. All except that tiny part of her that wants to throw him on her examining table and break every doctor-patient rule in the book. . .
When Stone tries to help Emma learn to loosen up a bit, he pictures white-water rafting or scenic mountain hikes. Not a mind-blowing affair that shakes them both to the core. Emma's sure she has no place in a town like Wishful, but Stone knows different. Emma belongs here - in this town, in his life. And convincing this strong-minded, stubborn, sexy woman of that fact will be a challenge no Wilder man could resist. . .
My Review

                         3 Dr. Evil Stars

“By teaching you how to smell the roses. I’m a giver that way. Come on, Emma. Unless you’re too chicken?”
“Kiss me, Stone. Take what you want.”

Instant Gratification is the second book in the Wilder series, and it's all about the middle brother Stone finding love. While this book was a Okay read it wasn't great for me. The heroine Emma drove me crazy. I didn't out right hate her, but I didn't like her either, and the things she did made me wanna shake her. Hard!!
Emma:
I don't even know where to start with all the reasons why I disliked Emma so I guess I will just take it from the top. Emma is a uppity, uptight bitch!!! I thought she was selfish, and rude to her dad even after learning everything she thought bad about her dad was wrong. She was so hot and cold with poor Stone I am shocked he didn't have whiplash. She would be ripping clothes off because she wanted to him so bad then the second the sex was done she was running for the hills. OMG and don't even get me started on how disrespectful it was that she had her guy friend /sex buddy not only staying with her in her home while she was seeing/kinda dating Stone (what ever you wanna call what they had) but that she let him kiss her twice after she started something with Stone. I mean COME ON she kissed another guy I don't give a shit if it was to see if there are any sparks. I wanted to slam my head into a wall when Stone caught her kissing the other guy and just took her excuse and then slept with her! PFFFF!

“You’re right. I’m looking for an excuse to blame you when the truth is, I’m so grateful that you were there that day that I don’t even care why you didn’t tell me. I’m picking a fight because because I’m a coward.”

“Don’t make up an excuse to run away. I don’t need a pretty lie.”

Stone:

Stone is the only saving grace in this book. He was fun, laid back and sweet. He has a big heart and took care of everyone. Some of the things that came out his mouth OMG is Stone sweet. He works so hard to get Emma to loosen up. I really thought he could do so much better than Emma. Just saying!

“Well, here’s a memo for you, life isn’t easy.” “No,” he agreed, sweeping a hand up her back, his smile gone. “Life sure as hell isn’t. But you make of it what you can, and you do your best to enjoy the hell out of it, because it’s the only life you get.”

“Because you were feeling pretty damn relaxed until about two seconds ago, when you realized you were hugging me for all you were worth. That’s when you got all uptight again.”

I didn't really care for Emma and Stone as a couple because I feel like Stone was always working so damn hard just to get her to loosen up and spend a little time with him. She was just like a bitchy wet blanket. I did love the T.J Stone brother moments and I loved the Annie, Nick news. I would have liked to see Katie and Cam again. I missed them a lot in this book. Over all this book was ok but not a great read. It's hard to love a book when you can't stand half of the main couple. Oh well I am on to T.J.'s book.

“You. You offering your heart and soul to everything you do. It changed me. You changed me.”

My Review

4 Live life balls out Stars

“I dreamed about living my life to its fullest. Balls out.” “You don’t have any.” “It’s a euphemism.”

So this is my first time reading Jill Shalvis and I loved it. Instant Atrraction, the first book in the Wilder series was awesome! This book has a little bit of drama, but for the most part it was a funny, light, sexy read!

What this book is about

At one time Cameron Wilder had it all. As a champion snow boarder he had money, fame, and the girl. Then he found out his girl slept with someone else. Distracted and Distraught he has a snowboarding accident that cost him his career. Not knowing how to deal with it all, Cam has spent the last year wandering the world trying to find himself. He comes home to find a beautiful sleeping woman in his bed. She says her name is Katie and she says she works for Wilder Adventures and Expeditions the company him and his brothers own. He is instantly attracted to her, but it's more than that. This little sexy thing in his bed makes him feel, something he hasn't been able to do since the accident.

“You think I’m so strong? I’m trying, believe me, but at this point, it’s still just an illusion.”“You’re here, doing something new. Out of your element and handling it. You are strong. You’re one of the strongest women I know.”

Cam:

Cam is the reason I gave this book 4 stars instead of 5. I liked his character for the most part but his fear over his feelings for Katie annoyed me although I could understand why he would have some fears. Cam has been hurt many times. He could be very sexy, charming and sweet.

“I want you to know that I get that I tend to keep myself emotionally distanced from everything and everyone. But you…” He shook his head as if a little overwhelmed. “I’m not emotionally distanced from you, Katie. I never was.”

“But I met this woman. She’d been through hell but didn’t let that stop her. Nothing could make her quit.” He drew a deep breath, looking into her eyes, his so clear and green. “It made me want to be a better man. I don’t want to quit you, Katie.”

Katie:

“I want you to know, chickens aren’t sexy. Not to me.”

Katie made the book for me. She was honest, playful, and so full of life. Katie is the only survivor in a bridge collapse that killed 30 people. She is fighting her own demons. She doesn't let fear stop her. Panic attacks and all she still fights to live life to fullest or "Balls out" which is her motto. I love how she is with Cam. She doesn't make him feel like a failure and she doesn't demand anything from him. She gets him talking about his feelings and makes him think. She makes him smile and laugh and want to be a better man. She just lives in the moment with him. She is very open and doesn't play games. I love that she just tells everyone what she is feeling.

“Don’t say you’re a quitter, because the man I’m looking at has been dealt some pretty rough blows and he’s still standing. The quitting thing is bullshit, Cam. And don’t try to tell me you don’t feel this thing between us either.”

“I see them, Cam. I see all of them, and you know what? I want you anyway. I want you because of them. Because you’re human. Because…Because you represent someone who’s lived his life balls out-” She broke off at Harley’s choked laugh. “Oh. Am I not supposed to say balls to someone who has balls?”

“Nah, he’d try to kick my ass, and then I’d have to kick his, and then Annie would want in on it. It’d be a whole ass-kicking thing”

Cam and Katie together are so hot and cute. There is some major sexual tension going on in this book. I love that they spend a lot of time together so you get to see their relationship build. There is a side story of Annie ( Cam's aunt) and her husband Nick working out some problems in their relationship. I really like Cam's brothers and can't wait to read their stories. I loved the family dynamics. There was the cheating Ex but she really didn't cause much trouble and Cam shot her down the minute she tries! This book was a funny, sweet read with very little drama. I think Jill Shalvis may have just gained a new fan!
