4 Putting down roots Stars

Merry Cowboy Christmas, the 3rd book in the Lucky Penny Ranch Series, was a great read. Having read the other two books as well I am a real fan of this series and I feel really attached to all the characters. I fell in love with each of the Dawson Men as I read each of their love stories. And although Toby and Lizzy's story will always be my favorite, I really enjoyed Jud, and Fiona's love story. 

Jud was just as sexy as his cousins Toby and Blake, but he wasn't as wild. He was ready to have a family, put down roots. Not just with any woman he wanted the right woman. That woman was the fiery redheaded Logan sister that just came back home. Jud was sweet. He had such a big heart I just couldn't help but fall in love with him. From the way he fell in love and supported Fiona and her dreams to the way he went about helping an old man that treated his family like crap. He was hard working, smart, hot, and all heart. Jud was just an all around great hero. Fiona was sweet like the other Logan sisters, but she felt like she didn't really belong. Her sisters had their place, their jobs, what they were going to do in life, where they belong, and she wanted to fit in too. Like most redheads she had a bit of a cute temper and she could be sassy. She was also loving, loyal, and very smart. 

I loved Jud and Fiona together. They didn't just have heat and passion, although they had plenty of that. They had a deep friendship too. I loved that this book took place at Christmas time. I am a sucker for Christmas romances. I watch the Hallmark channel Christmas movies almost religiously. So ate up the sweet Christmas time vibe this book gave off. I also enjoyed that fact that Truman and Dora June sweetened up a lot in this book, while still being believable. I will say that I wish Fiona hadn't been so wishy washy for so long, but then again I could understand it in a way. I also loved how it all worked out and the ending was super sweet. I seen at the end of the book that the next book coming is Wicked Cowboy Charm and that it's Deke and Josie (Jud's sister) Dawson's story. I can not wait ..... CAN'T WAIT ...to watch Deke be taken down. Deke with his wild ways going through women like they are water. I just can't wait to see love knock him on his butt! A great read. I would recommend It to anyone who loves Christmas romances and sexy cowboys!

1.5 love triangle with a ghost Stars

Let me just say that this book was just not for me! Sorry but I didn't like the heroine Maddie. But the biggest problem I had with this book. The thing that ruined it for me was that I felt like poor Zach was second place to Maddie's dead boyfriend Vince. OMG it bothered me so bad. I have friends that don't like reading books with dead exs at all, because they feel like the new love interest is second place always. Because if that person wasn't dead the new one wouldn't have a shot with them in the first place. I have never been like that. I don't mind books with dead exs as long as the the new love is just as special and loved. To me I love when a widow finds love again and life goes on. Just because I am okay with dead exs doesn't mean I want to read a book where I believe the hero or heroine loves that dead ex more. I don't like second place either. 

This book was so bad about it that I really don't buy Maddie's love for Zach and I don't blame Zach for his doubt either. For one it put a knot in my stomach that she thought about Vince all the time. I do mean ALL THE TIME! He was dead but he was like a main character with a staring role. She really was having a love triangle with Zach and Vince's ghost and the ghost was winning for like 90% of the book. Hell she didn't even tell Zach she loved him until the last page and then she told him while still comparing him to Vince. She said 

"I loved him a lot." She kept her gaze firmly on the diamond. "Almost as much as I love you."-Maddie

She talked about Vince all the time. Cried for him. Smelled his shirt. Thought about pretending Zach was Vince when she was going to sleep with him as a one night stand. And she only picked Zach as that one night stand because he sounded like Vince. Then when she does sleep with him for the first time she calls out Vince's name when they are having sex. He misunderstands her and thinks she said hints but she said Vince. Gross! 

Of course he figures it out and it rips his heart out. She dreams about him and she tells Zach that she will always love him. I mean Damn poor Zach. Zach was sweet talkin' sexy as hell cowboy and I felt he deserved better. It just truly ruined it for me because there is nothing beautiful about never being good enough. I want a romance to make me swoon not make me wish the hero would break up the heroine and find someone better! Just sayin'.

Well I will just say that the start of this book ticked me off and I almost dnfed it, but I read a few reviews from my goodreads friends that said it got better and I held on. And while it wasn't a great read for me I didn't hate it , and it did get better as the book went on. Making this a 3 star read for me. I did have one really big problem with this book and it really tainted the story for me. I seen the cover of this book on Netgalley and read the blurb and it sounded good. No where in the info I seen on this book does it say it's dark or that there is domestic violence in it.

NOTHING! See I read Dark romances and I love dark romances and even some dark not romances, but I know ahead of time it's gonna be dark. I am mentally prepared for the dark. I'm in the right mind set. See I am more lenient with men in Paranormal, Biker, BDSM, and Dark romances. I hold them to a different set of rules and overlook behavior's I would not ever tolerate in real life or in other romances. If I didn't I would never be able to read those genres.

Don't tell me I'm getting a love story about a sexy MMA fighter and give me an asshole that hits his girlfriend, and expect me to love or even like him. WTF? Even in Dark romances the dark is normally not from the hero beating on women. Jason/ Cobra our hero, just a few pages in, and he is beating, and choking his gf (who is not the heroine). The gf wasn't much better either. She sits there provoking him by telling him she is going to have sex with other men(mainly a man he hates), flips out on him saying he is cheating all the time, and of course she hits him too. Sorry but there just is no redeeming the hero that repeatedly beats his gf. After reading that I've got blinders on the whole book, and it colored the way I looked at everything. 

Every time he told Lo he would never hurt her like that, I didn't believe him. And I know I rolled my eyes and popped off with snarky comments every single time. I would have been able to forgive him if he had just hit his ex gf just once realized how messed up and toxic that relationship was lefted her and then changed. But for 3 years nope sorry that's just too much to swallow. I also had a hard time connecting to Lorraine(Lo) the heroine at all. Lo just confused me. She was straight crazy. She had some multiple personality disorder going on. She would be herself then she would be her dead twin sister Heidi(Hi). It threw me off. Especially the fact that she had been wearing a wig to look like her sister and sleep with her sister's bf Ryan letting him pretend she was Hi. That was just plain gross. I get that "bad things", Really "bad things" happened to her but damn. It was hard to relate to someone a banana short of a fruit salad. Just sayin'!

I will say that the last 25 or 30% was good. He didn't seem angry and violent, her crazy just dried up and they had lots of hot sex. Hot sex always helps! I did like the fact that I didn't know who the bad guys was until they were revealed towards the end. And I thought the HEA was very very sweet. I just wish the author would have left out the domestic violence or not taken it to that extreme(3 years). Over all not a bad read even with the problems I had with it.
