A Sorceress of His Own

Book Review of A Sorceress Of His Own(The Gifted Ones)

Title: A Sorceress Of His Own

Series: The Gifted Ones

Author: Dianne Duvall

Date Published:  June 2nd 2015

Date Read:   June 13th 2015

The Blurb:
Since the day Lord Dillon earned his spurs, rumors of his savagery on the battlefield have preceded him into every room, stilling tongues and sparking fear. Weary of battle, he wishes only to find a woman he can wed who will approach him not with fear, but with the tenderness that has been absent from his life for so long. Yet only the wisewoman seems invariably at ease in his presence. Perhaps because she garners the same fear in others that he does himself.

For seven years, Alyssa has been by Lord Dillon's side, counseling him from the shadows, healing him with her hands, and staving off the worst of his loneliness while his fearsome reputation keeps others at bay. Blessed--or cursed--with gifts that label her a sorceress, she is forced to conceal her youth and the love she harbors for him beneath umbral robes that lead Dillon and his people to believe she is the same aged wisewoman who served his father.

All is revealed, however, and passions flare when an enemy threatens Dillon's life and Alyssa sacrifices everything to save him. When Dillon discovers that the wisewoman is far from elderly, he is instantly entranced. And, as he and Alyssa work together to defeat an enemy bent on destroying them both, Dillon will risk anything--even the wrath of his king--to be with her.

My Review

5 Crossing myself and praying for more Stars

                   *May contain some spoilers*

I loved Dianne Duvall from the first book of hers that I picked up, Darkness Dawns from the Immortal Guardians series. With each book of hers I have read my love has grown, and this book is no different. Dianne Duvall continues to impress me with her writing . Wow did I love this book!!! I enjoyed everything about it and the only wish I had for this book, was that it was longer.

"A few hours in my arms and you believe yourself capable of sorcery. Mayhap wizardry does course through my veins."

What this book is about

Lord Dillon is rumored to be one of the most savage warriors there is. Everyone fears him making his a lonely life. Sick of Battle and death he longs for a wife to bring him peace. One who would not fear him. One who be a Helpmeet to him, a partner. One he can love and be tender to. One like his wise woman. To bad his wise woman is old, or is she? After healing a mortal wound on him his wise woman is dying. Healing him she has taken on his wounds. Having never seen her before he takes off the robes that have covered her completely for the last 7 years and finds she is young, beautiful and the bride he has seen in his dreams. Now that he knows the true her, he will not lose her to death or anything else!

"I chose n-not to live... in a... w-world with... out you in it." "Then do not condemn me to a similar fate," he pleaded. "Do not leave me. I need you. You were right that night, when we talked of the woman I longed to have by my side, to grow old with. She does exist. But if you die, you will take her with you and deny me the happiness I have sought. Stay with me, please, and I shall spend the rest of my days thanking you."

Dillon:

Dillon is a sweet and good man. A great warrior, with a kind heart. He takes good care of his people and serves his King with honor. I love Dillon. He has such a romantic heart. The way he is with Alyssa had me swooning. He is sexy, playful, and treated her with respect. Dominant without being controlling, he still lets Alyssa be who she is . I love that he supports her and sticks up for her to his closed minded people. He is very stubborn too, not letting all the obstacles that would keep him and Alyssa apart keep him from having her.

"You see me better than anyone. You must know how I feel about you." When she would have spoken, he shook his head. "You are a brilliant strategist and have guided me well these seven years past. Do not abandon this particular quest so easily." He brushed her lips with a gentle kiss. "Please, Alyssa. You have fought by my side before. Do so one last time and I promise you the reward will be far greater than we ever dreamed."

"I burn for you, Alyssa. I tried to wait, wanted you to rest. But I am so greedy for you. I have to have you."

Alyssa:

Alyssa is awesome. She is strong and giving. Loving Dillon from afar knowing she couldn't show him the true her, and having to watch him with other women. Taking that hurt so she could serve him as his wise woman, and heal him. She is a truly unselfish person. The way she helped anyone she could even when they treated her with scorn just shows what a good hearted person she is. She is brave, sweet, and very loving. I loved that she did not fear Dillon and stood up for what she believes in.

"I love you, Dillon." Joy and pain surged through him. How he had longed to hear those words cross her lips. "Forgive me for n-not saying it ere now. I have been so foolish. I have loved you for so long. And, w-when we were taken, I feared I would not have the chance to tell you."

"I will heal your men, Dillon," she declared, implacable. "Whether it be now or as soon as your back is turned I shall leave up to you. I would remind you, however, that putting it off and allowing the wounds to fester will only result in more pain when I eventually get my hand on them."

"My need to see you safe. 'Tis not an affliction, but love that feeds it. Should that not please you?"

Dillon and Alyssa have a sweet relationship built on friendship, respect and a deep love. They are so cute together and playful. Dayum when they come together it was hott! I loved the plot of this story and the world it is set in. I Loved Dillon's brother Robert and I hope he gets his own book. OMG Seth, Marcus and Roland from the Immortal Guardian series have small parts in this book. The Happy end had me smiling so big! I really loved this book. I can't wait for the next one and I hope we see more Immortal Guardian cameos! Great read I totally recommend it!
